Devlog 3: Level 1 Underway

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well these days! I know it has been crazy. I even got a little sick the other week and had to take a break from Survive K-47's  development to rest. But it was so nice to get back to work!

In this latest post, I wanted to talk about the updates to the game and overall direction the game is heading. First of all, making your own 2D pixel art and assets for a game is enriching, but also takes a long time. Little tweets here and there to the overall look and feel of the game. The first level is still set in a desert environment. I am trying to think about ways to make the desert scene less bland. Any ideas please leave a comment below! I'd love to hear your ideas. The first level's layout is shown below.

The first level will serve as an intro to game mechanics. I'd like to experiment with procedural level designs in the future, once the game play mechanics are set.

Also worked on the level selection screen. Still a lot of work and bug fixes to go as the rotation is not quite right yet. The conceptual idea is shown below. The game player will fly around the 3D planet and search for areas on the map to enter.

Eventually there will be stars and other planets to fill the space. But for now, just a blank void.

Some mechanics for keeping track of how many bugs the player has killed have also been added.

Also been playing around with the player's friend/robot companion that will serve as aid or at least for weapon selection in each level. Don't want to over complicate things yet. Just keep it simple for now. Still don't have a name yet, so if you have any ideas please leave a comment and the best one will be included in the game along with a mention in the credits.

Everyone stay safe out there! I look forward to posting again soon! For more frequent updates be sure to check out my Twitter account.
